Lesson 3: Dangers of the Dark Side.
Poem by: Koren Jey
Lesson by: Jean-Luc Walker
I have seen many things, and learned even more from them, but nothing is as tragic as death between brothers.
--Jean-Luc Walker
Two sabers clashed high up on a black rock, under a darkening sky.
Two brothers, one Light, one Dark, dueling to the death on high.
Forward, backward, up and down, the two kin fought each other.
Friend to friend, family to family, brother to brother.
All around them raged the Force, in violent lightning storms, while far below on the sandy
beach, the sea crashed its foam.
The sabers met, both blades the same, both the same design. Made together years before, in a
happier time.
But then they were the instruments of death, in their skilled hands. Both knew the other
inside out, both knew the other's plans.
But as fate would have it, one brother fell, down into the darkening sea. His brother wept as
he watched his kin slowly fade away.
And who can tell, on that dreadful day, which of the brothers fell? Was it the Light, or was
it the Dark?
Nobody knows, not now.
Now the story is spoken in hush, telling of the brother's last days.
The days he would walk up to the place he had seen his brother fall.
And then one day he gave it up, his life, his prosperity. All that could have been had been
washed away, when his brother had plunged into the sea.
So he stood on that dread cliff, and stared down hard below.
Listening for that long-dead voice, giving him the chance to go. And after a time, through the
Force, the Jedi heard the call.
Almost joyfully he stepped off that cliff, and fell to his death below.
It is said now that if you go to that cliff, and you are a Jedi Knight. You may hear the sounds of the brothers, as they fought their last fight.
This is a poem by our distinguished Koren Jey, and with his permission, I am using this for lesson three. It is a lesson on the Dark Side. This is the story of twin brothers, both trained in the ways of the Force. During their training, they built identical sabers, same hilt design, same power cell, same crystal configuration; everything. One of them, however, crossed to the Dark Side for his own reasons. The Light brother took it upon himself to bring his brother back to the Light Side, but his brother refused. A battle raged and one died. The other got depressed and killed himself.
You might ask, "So what does this have to do with anything?" It has a lot. It shows the ability for anyone to turn to the Dark Side, no one is immune to it. Even the purest at heart can fall subject to the Dark Side’s temptation. It also shows you what it is like to battle those you care about. It is a very important lesson.
