Stories and thoughts from Jedi Baal Legato.
Notoriously cluttered with gadgets and tools, Baal Legato's chambers are aptly called 'the Workshop' by those who frequent the Academy. The wide window on the east side overlooking the sprawling garden beneath beckons and you sit in the sun, picking up a worn copy of 'The Book of Five Rings'.
Beneath in the courtyard Jedi Kedder deflects blaster bolts in the cool morning air, and you hear Baal walk into the chamber behind you. 'Ah, you're early! Excellent, I could use another opinion on this drive design.' He hesitates, 'Before that though there's something I'd like to talk about.'
Life, the Universe and Random Thoughts
I read a great article tonight in Scientific American (June '99) about mapping the universe. It showed a picture of roughly 15% of the sky showing about 3 million galaxies with each galaxy containing up to hundreds of millions of stars. The math here is truly mind boggling.
Aside from the fascinating science of this what am I getting at? Just look at how insignificant we are in the larger scale of the universe. We can reasonably assume that with that many star systems that there are many, many other pockets of sentient life out there. Those of you who feel so egotistical to think that we are alone in the universe please email me, I love a good debate.
How great is our ignorance. What wonders lie in wait for us, a fledgling species that can only harness what 20% of our brain's capacity? Will we crack the secret of telekinesis? Faster than light travel? Telepathy? Discover the Force? I won't take no for an answer.
When the day comes (long after I'm worm food) that we as a race are mature and understand fundamental secrets of the universe and those things still look to be impossible I might be convinced. Today I am not.
