In perfectly honest terms. Just Jedi is a long term pet project of mine that started way back in my highschool days when I first started to learn the in’s and out’s of building websites with basic html coding. My teacher had instructed me to think about what I ‘most wanted to share with others’ and since I was active in the Jedi Community at that time, I wanted to be able to share the joy and happiness I found in that experience. I wanted to show others that we could learn from more than just the “approved textbooks” and “lessons” others laid out for us. That there was a world out there with amazing people and amazing insights.
At that time...I choose to call it the “Jedi Dojo” A place to collect and assemble the lessons, lectures, codes, doctrines and beliefs of both the active communities and what they stood for...as well as it’s individual members.
But as I began to assemble my work. And studied ways to improve it. I began to learn that the world wasn’t as filled with sparkly stars as I had first made it out to be. I ran into a mountain of problems. I learned that people weren’t as amazing as I first believed...that everyone had an agenda and weren’t so quick to share what they developed. Oh they talked a plenty about creating a single archive that gathered everything into one place….but they never actually wanted to release their own works into it.
I also learned that - you can't build a foundation without materials to build from. In other words...without the lectures, doctrines, lessons, and words of wisdom from these “great” communities and “great” jedi….I had no means of building the archive I wanted to build.
And so. I left the project behind and moved on with a new focus in mind. Experience. Don’t get me wrong. I still built many failed websites along the way. Many, many, many attempts and versions that withered away before they had a chance to thrive. That was ok though, as it gave me experience. Both in the field of web design...and in developing my own lessons, lectures, and ideals of what it meant to be a Jedi.
Around 2008 or so (can't remember the exact date) during one of my random attempts, I spoke with my partner about names. Jedi Dojo was outdated and needed a new flair. During that time...the Jedi Community was really serious about developing “Standards” and was also fed up with all the sub branches of Jedi groups. “Christian Jedi” “Grey Jedi” “Dark Jedi”.... I told my partner that I wanted a name that would highlight the importance of Jedi being Just Jedi.
He told me that I already had the name. Just Jedi. But to make it unique we could make Just an acronym. Something along the lines of - J.edi U.nited S.tandard T.raining.
I really fell for the idea and so this group has been called that ever since. Over the years however the acronym was dropped because once again...I failed to collect and organize leaders of the Jedi Community in a way that would best help develop a set of sound standards.
Today. It acts as a place where I collect my own lessons, lectures and ideals. Without relying on a “working community”
Instead. I take my own experiences and put them into articles like these. Little segments of information and guiding tips that I hope will at least reach some of you, my dear readers, and encourage a small enough spark that will guide you into discovering your own inner Jedi and set of beliefs.
What information is shared by others, I gratefully collect into data pages and organize for the rest of you to use at leisure.
However, in the end. What is Just Jedi? Well. It is just another stop in the road that will always strive to offer our guests security, information, and a basic guiding post to see you safely off on your own soul journey.
Journal Entry: Have you ever worked on something that has developed and grown over time? Something that improves or changes as you yourself gain experience? Write about it!
