While it is exciting to imagine yourself flinging things across the room or lifting your friend up to the ceiling with only your mind...we here at Just Jedi don’t really consider such things to be any more than fictional. Force lightning, mind reading, persuading ‘weak minded fools’ to do your bidding… all of these things are just fun little gimmicks in the star wars universe.
That being said… While not as extravagant as the Jedi on your TV. Applying the Force into your everyday life is a very real thing. And the foundation of these applications all begin with
“Meditation”
Meditation is known throughout the world: Religions use meditation in the forms of prayers, chanting and reflection towards their doctrines and gods. Philosophy uses it to find deeper meaning in the way of life and of self. Spiritualists take it a step further as they apply it to their spell crafting. Even medical scientists and doctors prescribe the use of meditation in a number of health related practices.
There are many definitions and applications of “Meditation” Some are quite alike to others and some are quite different. It’s important to understand that what you have been told about meditation is just one of a world wide pool of possibilities. The most commonly shared method is one of clearing your mind of all thought, sitting in an uncomfortable posture, and maintaining this state for an x period of time. After all, it is a pretty cool picture to emulate, even the Jedi in star wars look cool sitting there all composed and disciplined. But what is commonly unsaid is that there is no ‘one size fits all’ method and each technique is just as vast. Here are a few that we commonly support here at Just Jedi.
Present Mind - Being present of mind is different from one - clearing your mind. Instead of attempting to make your mind empty of thought, you draw your focus on what is happening around and within you. Right this very moment. For a Jedi, this is particularly useful in practice, as it trains you to be more alert, aware, and conscious of the things most important in the here and now. As a result, your ability to be of service to others will improve further.
Centering - Centering is the process in which one reigns in all of their scattered energies, emotions, thoughts and senses and brings them into a peaceful center within themselves.
Shielding - It is possible to become overwhelmed by other people’s energies. Some may have dull, dark and depressed energies shrouding them. Some could be hyperactive, and others too mellow. When their energies brush up against yours it can have an effect on you, and you can take on some of these exaggerated emotions and become overwhelmed. Shielding is a method of solidifying your own energies so that they repel these unwanted influences instead of absorbing them.
Grounding - Grounding is a method of connecting your energy to the earths energy. This is an important method to perform after a spiritual or heightened meditation or when performing healing and magical practices. It allows you to exert energy without depleting what you have.
Sensing - Here at Just Jedi, Sensing is our main focus. It is the key aspect in meditation that unifies all practices together. To sense your present of mind, to sense your centered self, to sense your shields strength and your grounded presence. To sense what is going on around you...and inside of you. Sensing plays a key part of a Jedi’s awareness and ability to respond to any circumstance.
Journal Entry: Present Mind, Centering, Shielding, Grounding, Sensing - These are just a few of what Meditation is capable of. Do a bit of research and list a few others along with a description that most draws your interest.
