Those of us with the commitment to what this Academy is for, have taken a step forward in a world where many will just stand back and let others implement change. We as Jedi have taken a responsibility in this world to make things better, and improve things as best we can. This is the principle of being a Jedi.
From the movies to which we are inspired to create a way of life, once said that "the Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice", and with this we have evolved into what the Academy is. However our way of life has become more than just something loosely based on something from a movie. Our way of life has become a thing of freedom, and that's where it's true beauty lies. We may choose to follow as we are told by others or even from the books or movies, but true belief is better understood when you adapt things for yourself. Being Jedi is not defined by how often you meditate or how long you've been in training. Being a Jedi is about the ideals of it, its about helping others, making a difference and guarding peace and defending life.
Some people are often confused to what we believe here at the Academy, I don't blame them, because none of us can really say what each of us believe. It is not surprising when outsiders are harsh and critical when our viewpoint is not quite so clear, they often cannot get over the fact that we a based upon a movie. Sometimes I wonder if I'm crazy and if some of you are a little that way too. In some small way a lot of people are, but the point about who we are is still the same, we are trying to become better people and also improve other people's lives in a small way. We each go about this in a different way, and some even don't go about it much at all, but this is the underlying belief and principle I believe we should all have if we wish to accomplish what we seek.
Our role in society is yet undefined, but I believe that we are at the beginning of something that might one day become something grander, or if not the Academy could remain the foundation for lost souls who need a little guidance and self improvement as I'm sure you will all agree that it has done this for you in some way.
The Academy is more than a learning center, as it has become a society of people, all sorts of people, from all sorts of places. It is more than an Academy it is a home, where we all guests of Baal's and we are all peers.
Remember this my brothers and sisters of the Force, "We are many in the universe, but are bound as one in the Force."
May you find that which you seek.
