Awareness. You may be wondering what that has to do with spiritual defense. The answer is quite a bit. If you are not aware of your surroundings, you can’t prepare for what comes your way. So, what I’ll do today is try to increase your levels of awareness using the Force. It’s akin to old Obi Wan’s “stretch out with your feelings” lesson. Today I will teach you the real life equivalent of that.
Now some of you may have The Last Jedi flashbacks of Rey sticking her hand out. Turns out, she wasn’t that off base. After all, we are accustomed to physical sensations all our lives. It is only natural that we react in those terms. But before we increate our awareness, we must become aware of ourselves. Now that sounds difficult, but it isn’t. Those of you who have been to the Jedi basics class are already doing this but on another level. First thing you need to do is probably the most basic thing a person can do, it’s so basic that you do it all day every day without thinking about it. Yes, you breathe. So, the first thing I want you to do is take a few deep breaths in ad a few deep breaths out. What you do is fill your lungs to about 70-80% of their full capacity and exhale at that same capacity. If at ANY time you feel pain as you are breathing you are doing it too hard. Why do this? Well, remember the Force is energy. More than that, it is always in motion. So, as we do these deep breaths, we are in a way simulating the flow of the Force in the universe and in ourselves. So, with that in mind, as you are breathing be aware of the exchange of energy between the air and your lungs. Remember that feeling.
Now that you’re in a relaxed state, you need to create an awareness of your body. A Warning: those with chronic pain may find this unpleasant. If you do, don’t focus on it. Acknowledge it and move on. Instead, feel the ground beneath you, your clothes on you, your breathing. All of it. Now, I want you to focus on the palm of your hand. Pour all your focus into it, try to imagine a ball being created. Keep that focus until you start to feel it. Once you ‘ve done that congratulations: you have directed the flow of the Force in your body.
Feel good? Great. Now let’s get crazy.
Now, I want you to raise your arm in front of you slowly, try to feel every muscle move. Keep that feeling of the flow in your arm. Now, reach out with your arms. Hold them out in front of you. Hold that feeling in your mind, the feeling of reaching out. How put your arms down in any way you feel like in a comfortable position and keep them there. Now close your eyes and remember that feeling of reaching out. This visualization helps you orient your energy and extends it, or should I say gives you the sensation of what extending energy feels like.
Now it’s time for your bravery test.
Remember to keep your arms to the side, recall that feeling of “reaching out” and feel that with your whole body. So that it is your whole body has that sensation, reaching out. That’s right, you’re making a bubble. What you are doing is reaching out with energetically. Visualize that energy expanding outward from your center and creating that bubble. That is your bubble, but that is also your fortress. Your home base.
Once you have that home base, once you’re comfortable with it you can strengthen it. One of the things I do is when I imagine that bubble in my mind, holding in to that feeling I imagine a curtain falling over the bubble, then I imagine that that curtain becomes a wall. What that does is create a very basic spiritual protection. One of the basic principles of battle is that if your enemy can clearly see you, you’re in trouble. Most things that can attack you energetically first need to sense you, to get a clear idea of how to strike. This makes it harder for them to get a clear picture. Most of the time, things won’t attack you unless you give them a reason to. Being an easy target is a good reason. Make yourself harder to see when you sense that someone or something is watching you and whatever it is will most likely leave you alone. Remember though, do not keep yourself walled up. That will cause your energy to stagnate. That’s not something that you want. This exercise is mainly to be used when you are under spiritual attack, wait for the coast to be clear then open yourself up to the Force once again.
