A 'Dojo' can be a number of things. But it's common purpose is; A place of training.
A dojo can be a "Temple" or "Meditation Chamber" it could be your Libraries basement, or at your local gym. It could even be a corner space in your own room that is designated specifically for training. Whatever the case may be....it is a sacred place, a place of contract, a place where you will promise yourself to devote all your focus and power into the art of training while leaving your day to day stress and thoughts 'at the door'
"When I was a child, my father placed me into a local Martial Arts school. Since it was a small town - our style choices were limited to just one. Wado Ryu, a Japanese karate system. Over the years I learned to respect my teacher, my comrades, and my Dojo. Every class I would enter or exit with a bow at the door. It was explained to me by my sensai that, by bowing at the door I am promising my teacher and my comrades that I would devote all of my concentration and focus on today's lesson and leave everything else at the door. When I left, I would again bow at the door. Thanking my teacher and comrades for the training....and allowing myself permission to return to the outside world once more." - The Keeper
In history. A Dojo was commonly known in the martial arts system, but martial arts wasn't always the only thing taught at the Dojo. Meditations were taught here as well as social awareness, manners, respect, self discipline and in some cases dependent on the Sensai and type of dojo other education’s were taught as an all encompassing place of learning.
As Jedi. We learn to train in our every day lives no matter where your feet are standing. In many aspects we say that our Temple and/or Dojo are within us and go where we go. And while this is all true and should be shown the same respect as a physical location. Just Jedi encourages our Initiate and Apprentice based members to seek out the physical as well as internal. As, The Physical is an easily understood construct that can help us formulate good habits that can be carried out into our internal temple.
"Do not place hope in finding a secret technique. Polish the mind through ceaseless training; that is the key to effective techniques." - Kyuzo Mifune
Journal Entry: Set up your own little corner as your personal dojo. Consider the subjects you hope to study inside it and tailor it towards your goals. Finally….. Take a picture! Or draw it. Make it fun!
